Bay of Plenty Polytechnic was founded in 1982 as a college. Its current name, established in 1988, comes from the location in the Bay of Plenty.
The main buildings are located in city of Tauranga, in the heart of the Bay of Plenty. There are two main campuses.
More than 12,000 students are enrolled in various courses and programmes.
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic has various programmes including architecture, autobody, business, computer technology, education and social services, electrical engineering, health and beauty, sports, tourism and others. A special pride is its marine program.
The polytechnic offers more than 100 different high-level courses and 45 short-term programmes. There are nine levels of training provided. The first four work towards various certificates. Levels 5-6 train for non-degree diplomas, levels 7-8 are Bachelor degrees, and the 9th is a Master’s degree level.
A Bachelor’s degree takes two to three years depending on the course. Students can start learning in the middle of the year, as well as gaining a degree in accelerated time.
Each academic year costs NZ$18,000 to $20,000 for tuition.
English requirements vary depending on the application: TOEFL from 500 to 600, IELTS from 5.5 to 7.0.
Bay of Plenty Polytechnic does not offer accommodation options. For accommodation and meals the polytechnic recommends a budget of NZ$10,000 to $15,000 per year.
Campuses offer a variety of services for the comfort and health of students: aqua and fitness centre, restaurant, shop, bookstore, numerous cafes, copy centre and much more.
The polytechnic has its own radio station.
