Freemans Bay School

Freemans Bay School is a state contributing school in Central Auckland which welcomes children from year 1 to 6. The school has a long history of more than 125 years old. With the roll of nearly 500 students, the school embraces students from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds offering an exciting and vibrant environment to be in. The school teachers are committed to preparing students for future oriented learning by engaging and using the latest technology and e-learning resources in their teaching. Freemans Bay School has been innovative in developing a personalized curriculum and encouraging students to be responsible for their own learning.


Freemans Bay School enjoys a very central location – within a 15 min walk to the Auckland Central Business District, which makes travelling to school by bus easy. All city facilities are literally at the school’s doorstep: beautiful and spacious parks, shops, arts and cultural attractions and family entertainment.

Learning environment

Freemans Bay School is a vibrant an exciting place to be with students from many ethnic and social backgrounds. The school offers a safe and supportive learning environment for international students who are warmly welcomed and offered many opportunities to participate in the variety of school activities. International students and their parents are well supported by school enabling them to integrate in the community and engage socially with other families.

Student numbers

The school roll is 490 students aged 5 to 11 years old. The school welcomes students from overseas and can host a maximum 20 international students.

School curriculum

The school offers a rich curriculum based on the principles of The New Zealand Curriculum, current educational research and best teaching practice. The learning areas include English, mathematics, arts, languages, science and technology, physical education and music.

Children to whom English is not their first language are offered English language classes with specialist teachers where they learn to speak, read and write.

The school’s curriculum is future oriented and includes online learning, which can also be accessed from home.

Tuition fees

$12,000 per annum
$3,000 per term
$400 per week (minimum 4 weeks)

Effective 1 January 2016, all short term enrolment fees will be set at $500 per week.

Admissions requirements

Freemans Bay School accepts children aged 5 to 11. The minimum enrolment period is 4 weeks.

Accommodation options

International students in Years 1-6 must live with their parents or legal guardians. The school can provide advice on accommodation options.
