Kangan Institute is in the top 5 TAFE institutes in Australia according the World Ranking Guide 2010. Both teachers and students at Kangan have won numerous industry awards. In 2013, Kangan Institute was a winner of the VACC Auto Apprenticeships – Industry Collaboration Award and the Student Engagement System – VET Client Service Excellence Award.

Locations

Kangan Institute has five campuses in Melbourne and the surrounding areas:

  • Broadmeadows – houses the Transport and Logistics Centre, Richard’s Restaurant for hospitality training, and the learning centre for indigenous students;
  • Docklands – home to the state of the art Automotive Centre of Excellence – the largest and most advanced automotive training centre in the Southern Hemisphere;
  • Essendon – located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, the campus offers programmes in small business management, criminal justice, and graphic arts;
  • Moonee Ponds – Centre for Health and Nursing offers programmes in nursing, aged care, integrated health and disability;
  • Richmond – Centre for Fashion and Creative Industries delivers programmes in fashion design, visual merchandising, millinery, hair and beauty.

The Institute makes extensive use of technology and offers a number of online courses, including disability, English language, legal studies, logistics, nursing and work health safety.

Tuition fees

The average cost for international students for a year of study is AUD14,500.
In addition to tuition fees, all students are required to pay a compulsory student services fee of $200 per year and also some courses may have material fees.

Admission requirements

International students must meet academic and English language requirements. The majority of courses require the equivalent of the Australian Year 12 qualification or relevant work experience. If English is not your first language, you will need to have the IELTS score of 5.5 academic with no band score below 5.0. International students who do not have the IELTS score can complete an ELICOS programme.

Accommodation options

Although Kangan Institute does not have accommodation facilities of its own, Student Welfare Officers can provide support and information on accommodation options. The average cost of accommodation in Melbourne is AUD13,000 a year.
