Established in 1984, NZLC is one of the largest English schools in New Zealand and offers a wide range of high quality English language courses. NZLC is an active member of the Association of English New Zealand and an authorized examination centre for Cambridge English.
NZLC is in the top NZQA ranking of language schools in New Zealand, allowing students studying for more than 14 weeks the right to work part-time in the country.
The school has recently won its second consecutive STM Star Award in the category: ST Star English Language School Southern Hemisphere. It is the only English language school in New Zealand to have ever done so.
NZLC Academic buildings are in two major New Zealand cities – Auckland and Wellington. Christchurch NZLC is closed due to the earthquake of 2011 and recovery is unlikely; but there are plans to build a new campus.
The Auckland campus overlooks the Waitemata Harbour, and is a five-minute walk from the city centre and the Sky Tower. The school is a 40-minute drive from the airport.
The Wellington campus is also located in the city centre, just a minute’s walk from the central bus station.
The NZLC Auckland campus trains 250-300 people, and another 60 to 80 people are educated at the Wellington campus.
NZLC offers a huge selection of language courses for all levels and purposes including: academic English, everyday English, professional training courses for teachers of English, group tours and language programmes for children 11 to 17 years old. Upon completion of training students take either the internal exams or standardised tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, and/or TOEIC (only in Auckland).
One of the most popular courses at NZLC is the Pathway Programme, as it allows students to enrol in the leading educational institutions in New Zealand without IELTS.
Duration of training depends on the selected program. A course in everyday English starts each Monday.
The standard duration of the English for Business course is 10 weeks, and the English for Teachers course runs for 4-5 weeks. The courses for children and teenagers start from two weeks.
Preparing for the University of Cambridge Programme lasts 10-12 weeks.
The cost of a full course depends on the programme and duration and includes a one-time registration fee of NZ$200.
English is taught here for students at any level of knowledge.
Accommodation is possible in some apartments, hostels, with a homestay family, and out on a farm (on request).
NZLC conducts a variety of cultural, sports, and sightseeing activities, including swimming, conversation club at the bar, surf lessons, barbecues, and visits to museums. All this is a great way to make friends and get English practice outside the classroom.
The school’s City Link programme gives students the opportunity to obtain free tickets for travel between Auckland and Wellington – if they study for at least 12 weeks.
Students can only speak English on school grounds. Every five weeks the teachers allow students to come up with their own methods of controlling communication in school – speaking only in English.
