Learning Environment

International students have a lot of support from the College staff who can help them on any academic and day-to-day issues.

After successful completion of the two year diploma course, international students can apply for a 1 year Graduate Job Search visa.

Diploma of Hospitality Management

This Level 5 qualification will equip students with theory and practical skills needed for real world management role in the hospitality and travel industry. The two years of study include 9 months of fully paid internship to provide students with real life experience. Graduates have the option of obtaining a Bachelor of Business degree at Otago University, NZ (2 years) – ICMS, Australia (6 months) or Cesar Ritz, Switzerland (1 year + internship).

Diploma of Adventure Tourism Management

This Level 5 qualification covers the knowledge and skills required for successful operation and management of adventure activities. And organisations. This is the only diploma of its kind offered in New Zealand. A feature of the programme is the 6 month fully paid internship with leaders in the Adventure tourism Industry. Students also have an opportunity to complete their degree at Thompson Rivers University (BC, Canada) or ICMS in Australia.

Foundation Studies Certificate

The University of Otago Queenstown Resort College Foundation Studies Certificate is delivered over two full time semesters. Successful completion of the programme will meet the academic requirements for University entrance for University of Otago undergraduate degrees in Business and Humanities.

This course is also recognised by all NZ Universities for entry into their general degree programmes.

A Bridging Course is also available for those not meeting the English requirements.

Admission Requirements

  • Students must be 18 at the start of the programme.
  • International students must have completed a secondary programme equivalent to 12 years of schooling in New Zealand and have met the academic requirements.
  • The English language requirement for entry at the Diploma level is IELTS 6.0 with no less than 6.0 in speaking and 5.0 in other bands.

Accommodation options

Students are encouraged to stay in the QRC Hall of Residence at least in their first two terms of study. This is a great way to learn to live independently in a comfortable and supportive environment.

Students can choose to stay in a single or shared room. All rooms are fully furnished with a fridge, TV and ensuite bathroom. Meals are provided. Excellent communal facilities offer multiple opportunities to socialise, including a tennis course, fitness centre, a kitchen and lounge areas.
